When the Little Moccasin Gold Mine first opened in 1874, a miners camp was built near the mine to house and feed the miners. It also had a saloon and brothel, both managed by the mine and tightly controlled. When the railroad started to serve the mine, the camp was moved down the mountain to a more hospitable site. Most of the buildings in the camp, the bunkhouses, brothel, saloon, etc. were actually moved to their new site. The miners and supplies are now brought to the mine daily by rail. The site was converted to a support area for the mine and new buildings have been built for that purpose. There are the mine offices, equipment and supply sheds, a fuel yard, and several other structures.
